Some metaphors...

比喩をいくつか・・・

Eyes: window without a pane, second pair of hands, telegraphs,

目：窓枠の無い窓、第２の手、電報

Wind: letter from somewhere, someone saying “it happens,” thread of memory of the earth,  

風：どこからか届く手紙、「よくあることよ」という声、地球の記憶の糸

Pizza: painted plate, (sorry, it’s bad, bad, bad one—I am allergic to pizza, that’s why)

ピザ：絵皿（ピザ食べられないんで、いいメタファーも思いつかない）

Poetry: flying penguins, sharp scissors, bad newspaper articles,

詩：空飛ぶペンギン、鋭い鋏、ヘタな新聞記事

Liberty: your own ship to sail over, water you carry with you, water you thirst for, stream that helps you to swim, the hill to climb and “experience,”

自由：自分で漕ぎ出す船、自分で運ぶ水、渇望する水、泳ぎを助けてくれる水の流れ、登って体験する山 

Love: bare hands, kotatsu (hard to leave once you learn the comfort it gives you), struggling to write a decent sonnet,

愛：素手、コタツ（一度味をしめると出られなくなる）、素敵なソネットを書こうと四苦八苦 

Hate: bad homemade pie, throwing an icepick, spider’s net in your mouth, baking soda in the eye,

憎：まずい手作りパイ、アイスピックを投げる、口の中にくもの巣、目の中に重曹 

Cats: two-year-old kids, moody girlfriends, By the way, However, On the other hand,

猫：２歳の子どもたち、機嫌の悪い彼女、「ところで」、「ところが」、「一方では」

Depression: mud in a mouth, keep hearing “the line is busy,” looking at your carte too much (and possibly find the word positive),

鬱：口の中に泥、「お話中です」を聞き続ける、自分のカルテを凝視（した結果、「陽性」を発見）

Music: signals, a highlighter, sofa for your mind, chair for your mind, a bed for your ears,

音楽：信号、ハイライト、心のソファ、心の中の椅子、耳のベッド

Politics: overripe water melon, clock with no minute hand, overstuffed refrigerator, bad toilet paper, garbage car, TV with bad caption, mimed music, loose paperclip,

政治：熟れすぎたスイカ、長針の無い時計、ぎゅうぎゅうの冷蔵庫、粗悪なトイレットペーパー、ごみ収集者、変な字幕つきのTV、口パク、くたびれたクリップ

Morning: a glass of water, fortune cookies,

朝：コップ一杯の水、フォーチューンクッキー

Alcohol: raised bottom shoes, bad makeup, fake eye drops,

アルコール：上げ底靴、ヘタな化粧、ニセモノの目薬 

Greif: bad wisdom teeth, digging a tunnel alone, camping without a can opener, thorn in shoes, pool without water, a letter keeps to be miss delivered, wrong size screwdriver,  

悲しみ：虫歯の親知らず、トンネルをひとりで掘る、缶きり忘れてキャンプ、靴にトゲ、水のないプール、不達を繰り返す手紙、サイズの合わないドライバー

Desire: bad/good love letter, salmon filled river, running bore,

欲：ヘタな・上手なラブレター、鮭だらけの川、走る猪 

Joy: tap dancing in a crowd, wearing a made-to-measure panty, opening the first bottle of wine for the night,

歓び：ひとごみの中でタップダンス、オーダーメイドのショーツを履く、今夜最初のワインを開ける

Mortality: rust-eaten scissors, cold kitchen in Feb around 3 a.m., puzzle with the numerous answers,

死：錆びた鋏、２月・午前３時の寒いキッチン、いくつも答えがあるパズル

Taxes: bad neighbors, bloodletting, fake supplements you regularly take, donating blood when you actually need one,

税金：嫌な近隣住民、瀉血、毎日飲んでるインチキサプリ、自分が必要なのに献血

College life: dictionary without index, unvalued masterpiece, shipbuilding

大学生活：索引のない辞書、未鑑定のマスターピース、造船 

Metaphor: great nickname, perfectly brewed tea, the right key, the right-sized box, 

比喩：素晴らしいニックネーム、最高に美味しく淹れたお茶、正しい鍵、ぴったりの箱
